With the summer approaching, the masculine silhouette becomes lighter and the lines shorter. Longtime considered as dated, the short-sleeved shirt reemerges from the wardrobe in a pristine white version, pastel or tie-dye version, with an ethnic or naïve print, or even very rock in leather seen with Kris Van Assche for Dior Homme or with Lucas Ossendrijver for Lanvin. To accompany it, the designers have come-up with shortened summer pants, rather tight-fitted, which can also be worn slightly rolled-up. For the summer of 2012, we are not afraid to say that the acclaimed Bermuda shorts are appropriate for all occasions: in a very dandy style over pants for the cooler days, imagined by Dries Van Noten or monochrome Dolce & Gabbana style for the warmer weather. Printed for daytime wear, like at Jean Paul Gaultier, you can simply accompany it with a jacket so that it becomes chic for the evening. Bermuda shorts are perfect for all the must-haves this season: Safari jackets for a retro style, blazers and smoking jackets for a college boy style or you can even associate them with a wind-breaker jacket, tartan or khaki for an adventurer style seen with Kim Jones at Louis Vuitton. In boxers or bloomers, or even in tight little shorts, like at Hermès, the legs are on show, a necessity for the greater good of the athletes for this year’s Olympics. That is, if one dares…

It’s in the sumptuous gardens of the Château de Versailles that Karl Lagerfeld showed the Chanel Cruise collection. With a lot of genius and humor, the couturier has brought back to fashion the jabot shirt, the skirt with panniers, and the dress with a train, but in a punk style! The modern day Marie-Antoinette, branded with a Chanel beauty-spot, in platform sneakers and wearing a wig, is adorned with lace, pastel colors and denim. A collection admired by an audience of stars who came to congratulate King Karl!

Exhibition Event : Stars in Dior

While the 65th Cannes Film Festival opens its doors, the seventh art is honored at the Musée Christian Dior in Granville!
From a bird’s eye view, the Christian Dior house separates itself from the Granville cliff, with its belle époque style, its pink harling and its English garden. Now a museum, it houses the stylistic legacy of the star couturier of the 50s. And until the 23rd of September 2012, it showcases the seventh art, paying tribute to the ties between movie stars and the Dior fashion house through an exhibition and a book called “Stars in Dior”. Stars in their own right, these supermodels marked their era and the history of fashion. But that does not mean that they are ready to fall into oblivion. Whether advertising campaigns, muses for famous brands or guest stars at fashion shows, their beauty is still catching our attention.

Mother of three and creator of a cashmere brand Claudia Schiffer has slipped herself into a new pair of heals to celebrate 30 years of Guess. More glamorous than ever the exquisite Schiffer reenacts la Dolce Vita for Ellen Von Unwerth. While Linda Evangelista lends her famously piercing look to Chanel’s new eyewear campaign, shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself.
Loyal friend, the designer regularly call upon the British charm of Stella Tennant. Voted model of the year at the British Fashion Awards 2011, the mother of four leaves her castle in Scotland for fashion shows for the likes of Chanel and Givenchy, but also to secure the last Celine campaign.
As for Stephanie Seymour, sexier than ever, she has recently set the pages of the very select V Magazine alight.
The proud and beautiful black panther, Naomi Campbell continues to walk her serene figure down the runways to bring the last campaign by Roberto Cavalli to a close.
Rare appearances, but always intense, more than models, these superstars of old are above all inspirations and symbols of absolute glamour.

A global credit crunch requires us to cut waste or quite simply to respect nature, nowadays fashion is produced differently… No matter whether an international designer or a young emerging brand, every designer is competing for creative ways of conceiving an ethical and responsible line of fashion…
If proof were needed that everyone is now committed to saving the environment, after a year of restorations at the Crillon hotel, located at place de la concorde in Paris, they have decided to recycle the tarpaulin which covered the scaffolding in order to make an exclusive line of luggage accessories.
The brand Bottletop, got on this trend by creating a line of accessories made exclusively from bottle tops. Recapturing the spirit of Paco Rabanne from the 70’s, the success is growing and attracting fans, such as Jessica Alba, Kate Moss and Rachel Weisz.

Brazil fashion week : Young Designers

The “Drageo Fashion Week” which took place in Fortaleza, northeastern Brazil, highlighted the work of a whole new generation of designers through a competition that brought together eight fashion schools. Even though they aren’t as famous as the French, English or American institutions, they certainly didn’t let themselves down, on the contrary, the proof is in the pudding!
References to multiple cultures were exploited with leather and fringes, plastron jewellery and Aztec motifs.

The students also referred to the tribal culture of the Karaja natives…

Denim is reinterpreted in petticoat shapes.

Long draped dresses, lacing, pompom additions and crochet dresses. The students exploit their country’s savoir-faire.

And the winning school of this competition is “Santa Marcellina” of Sao Paulo, who worked on the reinterpretation of native tattoos, which are even found on sandals with wooden soles.

Brazil fashion week : Designers Focus

13th edition of the “Dragao Fashion Week” in Brazil, dedicated to the textile and handicraft industry’s expertise in the north-east of the country. A 3 hour flight from Sao Paulo, the city of Fortaleza, with its skyscrapers, palm trees, beach and sea, presents an idyllic but misleading landscape! The water is polluted and contaminated! A good reason to take more of an interest in the fashion presented onsite. 5 days of fashion shows, highlighting the new generation of designers and the local savoir-faire. The country is huge and this alone is an important market. Amongst the twenty fashion shows, here is our selection of creative and original proposals which have a ‘made in Brazil’ quality!
First observation, dressing-up smart is very fashionable! Lino Villaventura, the star of Brazilian designers, originally from the north-east, presents on the runway beautiful ball gowns made up of pleated ruffles, entirely embroidered black sheath dresses, and in a medieval spirit, metal mesh fishnet on loose outfits and court coats.
Second observation, ethical fashion is more than a trend, it’s a way of life. Not only are natural fibers used, but nothing is wasted, it’s recovered and work is given to women who are in the process of social reintegration. This is the case with the Doiselles collection, everything is handmade, crocheted or knitted by prisoners. Very well made and original, like these shawl dresses or little capes …
Melk ZDA advocates a white couture with silk satin, greatly inspired by the outfits seen in New York and Paris. We also note the use of unusual materials such as crumpled paper and lacquer.

At Mark Greiner, the woman is made into a goddess, dressed in beige and black leather, accessorized with a silver embroidered veil and wearing an impressive and original hat.

The label Clair has been working on Brazil’s favorite item: the swimsuit. Along with handmade beachwear, crocheted, in long or short versions.
At Marcusson, the tango leads the way, with a seductress in embroidered lace.

Vivi Huhn revisits Paris with prints representing the mythical monuments of the French capital.

Mario Queiroz, the Brazilian Antonio Marras, operates a single color: black, reworked with embroidered graphic motifs.

These 5 days of fashion shows prove the importance of Brazil in terms of creativity and expertise …
